How to Get High Quality Pal Oil in Palworld
Buy, farm, or ranch High Quality Pal Oil, then find the other key materials needed to clear the Palworld technology tree.
The best High Quality Pal Oil method depends on what is limiting you. Buy it when one recipe is blocking progress, defeat or capture oil-dropping Pals when you also want experience and capture progress, or assign Dumud and Dumud Gild to a Ranch for steady passive production.
Choose the best oil method
Buying is the fastest answer to an immediate shortage because the amount is predictable and the only real requirement is Gold. Active farming is better when your team can clear large Pals quickly and you want their other drops as well. Ranch production starts more slowly, but it is the most convenient choice for a world you expect to keep playing.
Do not choose a method by yield alone. A short route near fast travel can beat a theoretically better target that requires expensive ammunition, healing, or a long flight. At a mature base, the time saved by passive Ranch production is usually worth more than another manual farming loop.
Buy it for an immediate craft
Caravan Leaders and some red-shirt merchants sell High Quality Pal Oil. A merchant purchase is ideal when you need a fixed amount for Polymer, one weapon, or one piece of equipment and already have spare Gold.
Check the price before buying a full stack and keep enough Gold for ammunition, medicine, and other progression costs. Purchasing solves a short-term bottleneck; it is rarely the best long-term plan if every new recipe sends you back to the same merchant.
Farm large Pals for oil and experience
Large, heavy-bodied Pals such as Mammorest and Grintale are useful active targets, and other desert or coastal Pals can also supply High Quality Pal Oil. Build a route around enemies your current team defeats comfortably instead of chasing the highest-level target on the map.
Unlock nearby fast-travel points, bring a fast mount, repair your weapons, and leave enough carrying capacity for the run. Capture targets when you still need their capture bonus or want them for breeding; defeat them when speed and Pal Sphere cost matter more. The important measure is useful oil per minute after travel and supplies, not the drop from one fight.
Produce oil at a Ranch with Dumud
Dumud's Soil Improver partner skill can produce High Quality Pal Oil while it is assigned to a Ranch. Dumud Gild can do the same through Golden Harvest, with an additional small chance to produce Gold Coin. These skills make both variants useful once you want oil without another combat route.
Build the Ranch close enough to food, transport, and storage that its output does not sit on the ground. Keep Dumud assigned to Farming and remove competing jobs if it repeatedly leaves the Ranch. One Pal is enough to start; add more only after your transport Pals can keep the collection area clear.
Keep a reserve before making Polymer
High Quality Pal Oil is best known as the ingredient refined into Polymer, which feeds many advanced weapons, structures, and equipment recipes. Convert only the amount you need for the next craft. Keeping an oil reserve prevents a later recipe from forcing an unnecessary merchant trip or farming run.

Other key materials from the technology tree
Palworld 1.0 adds and reworks several material gates beyond High Quality Pal Oil. The quickest way to identify them is by biome and harvesting tool: black deposits in dry regions point to Coal, bright mineral nodes in snow point to Pure Quartz, and the late-game ores require specific islands, detectors, or specialized tools.
Coal
Coal appears as large black deposits. Caves can provide it early, while dry desert routes and volcanic regions are easier places to gather larger amounts from visible surface nodes. Once the Coal Mine is available, base production can replace repeated manual trips.
Hardwood
Hardwood comes from sturdy trees in harsher, higher-level environments, including desert, volcanic, and snowy regions. Bring a suitable axe or a Pal with strong Lumbering, and combine the trip with nearby ore nodes instead of making a single-resource journey.
Pure Quartz
Pure Quartz is most closely associated with snowy fields. Its pale deposits resemble ordinary stone but have a brighter crystalline or metallic sheen. Cold protection and a mount make a large difference on manual routes; the later Pure Quartz Quarry provides a base alternative.
Crude Oil and the two extractors
Crude Oil is a separate resource from High Quality Pal Oil. A standard Crude Oil Extractor must be placed on an oil field, so early oil bases are constrained by node locations. The High-Pressure Crude Oil Extractor can be placed at a normal base without an oil node after it is unlocked, allowing power, storage, and production to share one layout.
The demonstration in the supplied extractor test found no meaningful speed difference between the two extractor types under the same research bonuses. The real trade-off is infrastructure: several High-Pressure Extractors can overwhelm an otherwise strong grid when the generating Pal rests or switches work. Add extractors gradually, watch whether stored power rises over a full work cycle, and improve generation, battery capacity, Pal assignment, and extraction research before expanding again.
Chromite and Hexolite Quartz
Both materials belong to Feybreak progression, but they are gathered differently. Chromite is buried underground and requires a Metal Detector or a Pal capable of detecting metal. Hexolite Quartz forms conspicuous pale deposits on Feybreak, especially against the island's darker purple terrain, and can be mined directly.
Soralite
Soralite is the blue-glowing late-game ore found across the floating islands of Sunreach. Natural deposits require the Plasma Multicutter for manual harvesting. Aim at the illuminated weak points on the node; spraying the tool across the dark rock wastes time and produces very little damage.
Coralum Ore
Coralum Ore is obtained through ocean salvage and certain Pal drops rather than ordinary rock mining. Ride a Water Pal, equip a fishing rod, and carry the fishing magnets required by the salvage point. Higher-level ocean debris can demand stronger magnets, so check the technology tree before assuming a floating wreck is unusable.
Paloxite, Mythical Wood, and Pal Metal Ore
These are World Tree resources. World Tree nodes can vanish when approached unless you have the required protection, such as World Tree Holy Water or the appropriate Pal effect. Prepare that protection before entering the gathering area rather than discovering the mechanic after a rare node disappears.
Ancient Civilization Parts are another common technology-tree bottleneck, but they follow a different farm based on Alpha Pals, dungeon bosses, and opportunistic Lucky Pals. Use the Ancient Civilization Parts guide instead of searching the World Tree ore routes for them.
Is High Quality Pal Oil the same as Crude Oil?
No. High Quality Pal Oil comes from Pals, merchants, and Ranch partner skills and is refined into Polymer. Crude Oil comes from oil fields, extractors, and some later rewards and is used in a different production chain. Neither resource can substitute for the other in a recipe.
What is the best early method?
Buy the exact amount required if you already have Gold. Otherwise, farm large Pals along a short route that also advances captures and experience. Ranch production becomes the better default after you obtain Dumud and can support food, transport, and storage at the base.
What is the best long-term method?
Assign Dumud or Dumud Gild to a well-supported Ranch and let transport Pals move the output into storage. Keep merchant purchases and active farming as emergency options when a large crafting batch temporarily outruns passive production.
